IUDs are also known as Intrauterine Devices made of plastic frames that are T shaped. It is inserted in to uterus and it helps in birth control by stopping the fertilization of egg and sperm. It is available in two forms one is copper form and other is hormonal versions. Working of both the versions are similar. However, there are certain complications that may occur in IUD. These IUD complications may lead to severe conditions when neglected. Some of the IUD complications can be listed as follows:

1)      Pelvic inflammatory diseases: These diseases are one of the major forms of IUD complications that may bring sexually transmitted diseases. If a pelvic infection is left untreated, then it may damage the reproductive organs of the woman and thereby unable to become pregnant.

2)      Expulsion: Expulsion may occur when IUD dislodges from its original position and because of this IUD may not function properly. In this case, IUD may not protect you to get pregnant. If you need to make sure that the IUD is placed at proper position, you must feel the strings at least once in a month. You may contact the physician for the same process.

3)      Perforation of uterus: Another possible IUD complication is the perforated uterus when the professional health care person punctures your uterus while inserting IUD. In this case, the IUD may keep on moving outside the uterus and later on damage the organ and cause infections as well. There may be scars and major infections related with the same.

4)      Tubal Infection: When the IUD is inserted inside, it may cause some kind of infections resulting in tubal infection. If the case is milder one, antibiotics can be of great help.

5)      Sexually transmitted diseases: IUDS may help you to protect against pregnancy but it does not ensure protection against sexually transmitted diseases. Therefore, you need to be very cautious with it as this is also one of the major complications involved with IUDS. That's why IUDs are not recommended for women who love to have sex with many partners.

The complications associated with IUDS may be rare but when it occurs, it can be serious. There are many advantages associated with IUD and one among them is pregnancy control. It provides you with long lasting protection against birth control and for this reason most of the people prefer this method. This has been found to be effective in 99% cases and rarely there are cases of complications also.
